Location of the action: Georgia. Mtskheta -Mtianeti Region
Objectives and results of the action: sustainably improve the lives and livelihoods of 800 poor people (70% women) and their families, 3200 people in total, living in 5 communities in Georgia through: Creation and development of forest produce cooperatives that results in poor and marginalized women’s empowerment- 5 women cooperatives are supported and established; Sustainable use of forest resources that results in effective adaptation to climate change through improved harvesting practices and processing methods -170 women built the capacities in sustainable use of NTFP products ; Increased and more diverse household incomes amongst poor marginalized women -through sales of products collected over 300 women increased their incomes. Strategic partnerships are built between women coops and local enterprises -women farmers have better access to markets. A model of community-based processing enterprise is developed and replicated in 5 communities. Study on NTFP markets was conducted.
