Village Saving and Loan Association (VS&LA)

Within the frame of the project “Strengthening climate resilient livelihoods of ecological migrants and potential ecological migrants in five communities of Georgia” two-day seminar on the principles of functioning of Village Saving and Loan Association (VS&LA) was conducted in Ghorjomi community of Khulo Municipality, Adjara Region. -The VS&LA was established by a voluntary group of 17 women living in the village, whose members generate savings in the form of shares. The aim of VS&LA is to create a simple system of savings and loans for rural residents who do not have access to official financial services and resources.
In addition to overcoming the vicious circle of poverty introducing community-based financial mechanism will support the community members to strengthen their capacities in adapting to Climate Change and DRR impacts, through embedding renewable energy technologies in local economy.
